Read Psalm 78.21-31
“When the LORD heard them He was furious: His fire broke out against Jacob, and His wrath rose against Israel, for they did not believe in God or trust in His deliverance?’” (Ps.78.21f)
It seems remarkable that after they’d been so wonderfully delivered from the slavery of Egypt the people should have proved so indifferent to, and lacking gratitude for, God’s grace. Yet not so remarkable, perhaps, when we ponder our own walk with Him.
Paul wrote about the ‘kindness and severity’ of God (Rom.11.22): in what ways were these shown in His dealings with His people in the wilderness?
What lessons does this have for nations and individuals today?
Prayer: “Lord, I have heard of Your fame; I stand in awe of Your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy” (Hab.3.2)
