Knowledge
Read Malachi 2.7-9
“.. the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, because he is the messenger of the LORD Almighty and people seek instruction from his mouth ..” (Mal.2.7)
Those called to minister God’s Word are tasked to be (and to be understood as) God’s messengers, preserving knowledge and providing instruction: when they fall short of their high vocation, the effect is calamitous.
In what ways had the Levites in Malachi’s day failed in their calling?
What is the ‘knowledge’ which those called to teach God’s Word are ‘preserving’ through their faithful teaching of the Scriptures?
Prayer: ‘Pour out Thy Spirit from on high, Lord, Thine assembled servants bless; graces and gifts to each supply and clothe Thy priests with righteousness’ (James Montgomery)
