Hope

Read Malachi 2.17-3.5

“.. suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come ..” (Mal.3.1)

The readings this week explore the promise of the Lord’s coming – what Paul described as the Christian’s ‘the blessed hope’ (Tit.2.12-13). Losing sight of that hope distorts our perspective – and can leave us more easily disillusioned.

What sort of things can prompt you to think that God either isn’t there, doesn’t care, or is simply unfair?

In what ways does the hope of the Lord’s coming address and correct the distorted perspective which the returned exiles had adopted?

Prayer: Impress on my heart, Lord, the assurance of Your future coming: may that assurance shape and define my living day by day that I may have patience in adversity, and a persistent hope when my world seems to be in free-fall.
