Boldness
Read Acts 4.23-31
“Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable Your servants to speak Your word with great boldness ..’” (Acts 4.29)
What the psalmist envisaged (Ps.2.1-2) became (and still becomes) a sombre reality for the followers of Jesus: undeterred by the ‘conspiracy’ of power-brokers in the world of their day, the early church simply looked to the Lord to fulfil His Word.
For what would you have prayed in those circumstances? Are you more concerned to enjoy a comfortable life or to be a courageous witness?
In the face of the challenge to Christ’s church, the disciples ‘raised their voices together in prayer to God’: what will that mean for you in your context today?
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that Your hand is not shortened today so that it cannot save (Is.59.1): fill me with Your Holy Spirit day by day that I may speak boldly for You.
