Honour

Read John 4.43-44

“.. a prophet has no honour in his own country ..” (Jn.4.44)

Familiarity can sometimes breed a measure of contempt. And sometimes, as a result, you don’t truly appreciate the value of what you have until it’s taken from you. Jesus was, for many in Galilee, only ever “the carpenter’s son” – not ‘the Word’ Himself.

How can you avoid becoming a little bit blasé about the Word of God when you’ve grown so familiar with it?

How can you cultivate an ever-deepening delight in Jesus, and an ever-growing reverence in your heart for Him as Lord?

Prayer: Keep me from losing my ‘first love’ for You, my Lord. Fill my heart continually with the wonder of all that You are, all that You do, all that You’ve secured for Me.
