Rejoicing

Read Zechariah 9.9-13

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey” (Zech.9.9)

The parallels between this prophecy of Zechariah in the 5th century BC, and the manner of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem was not lost on Luke – nor would it have been lost on the crowds who welcomed Him as He travelled into Jerusalem.

Why was ‘Daughter Zion’ to rejoice greatly?

Is your life characterized by such rejoicing?

How is such joy stirred and sustained in our hearts?

Prayer: Open my eyes, Lord, to see afresh that You have come as King, and enable me to live today joyfully in the light of Your victory.
