Perverse

Read John 5.8-13

“.. ‘the law forbids you to carry your mat’ ..” (Jn.5.10)

It wasn’t the law of God, but their interpretation and application of the law of God, which forbade the man’s carrying his mat. How perverse we are when ‘tradition’ takes the place of Scripture, and our ‘rules’ matter more than a man’s being put on his feet!

Are there aspects of your living or your outlook which are shaped and informed more by ‘tradition’ than by the Bible itself?

How do you ‘keep the sabbath holy’ (read Exodus 20.8-11 and Isaiah 58.6-14)?

Prayer: Keep me, Lord, from a critical spirit which is forever finding fault with those around me. Help me, rather, to rejoice in that which is true and noble, right and pure.
