Read Psalm 78.1-8
“.. so that the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children ..” (Ps.78.6)
This is a long psalm (72 verses), rehearsing significant parts of Israel’s story with a view to our learning the lessons of history and avoiding the mistakes of the past. The opening verses explain why this rehearsal of the story is so necessary.
Why is it so important for each succeeding generation to be continually reminded of what God has said and done?
Whose careful instruction and exhortation have been used by God to sustain and deepen your trust in Jesus?
Prayer: Pray today for parents and grand-parents, for teachers and Sunday School teachers, and for all who work with children, in the responsibilities and opportunities they have to teach the ‘next generation’ about the Lord.
