Comfort

Read Isaiah 40.1-2

“Comfort, comfort My people, says your God ..” (Isaiah 40.1)

This week’s Bible readings work through this memorable chapter (Is.40). The chapter needs to be read against the backdrop of Isaiah 39 and its message of the impending exile in Babylon. There is great comfort as well as great challenge in God’s Word.

In what ways has God’s Word (a) most challenged you, and (b) most comforted you in recent days?

Although so aware of your own sinfulness how can you be sure that God’s plan is to give you hope and a future (see Jer.29.11)

Prayer: “Out of the depths I cry to You, O LORD; O Lord, hear my voice. Let Your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy” (Psalm 130)
