Promises

Read Ezra 1.1-5

“.. in order to fulfil the word of the LORD spoken by Jeremiah the LORD moved the heart of Cyrus king of Persia ..” (Ezra 1.1)

The return from the exile in Babylon was a long and gradual process (which itself has important lessons about His work in our lives). The LORD began what would be a protracted work of grace through the edict of Cyrus, king of Persia at the time.

Read Amos 3.7: why do you think God always flags up in advance what He is going to do?

God never reneges on His promises, even though sometimes it’s a long time before they’re fulfilled. What promises of God are you holding onto?

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, that You reveal Yourself to be the promise-making and promise-keeping God, and that all Your promises are ‘Yes’ in Jesus Christ!
