Sunday 2 May

Devotion

Read Ezra 7.1-10

“.. Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the LORD, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel” (Ezra 7.10)

God had prompted the king to give the go-ahead for a second ‘wave’ of exiles now returning to Jerusalem: He had also prepared this man Ezra for the task of rooting God’s people again in His Word.

Has there been that sort of ‘devotion’ in your life? And how has it found expression?

Read 2 Timothy 3.16-17: in what ways can you see that the Scriptures have ‘thoroughly equipped’ you ‘for every good work’?

Prayer: Lord, I don’t want to live a life of mediocrity, but left to myself my devotion soon cools: help me to be disciplined in spending time with You, in learning from Your Word, and in living my life in every regard for Your greater praise and glory.
