Thursday 15 April

Invitation

Read Luke 24.28-29

“But they urged Him strongly, ‘Stay with us .’.” (Lk.24.29)

These are the verses which lie behind the words of the hymn ‘Abide with me’, a hymn which has been the source of great comfort to many. Jesus doesn’t impose Himself on the disciples: but, equally, He’s quick to respond to their invitation.

Why do you think these two disciples urged Jesus so strongly to stay with them?

Is there that same sort of urgency in your pleading with Jesus to ‘stay with you’? What is it about Jesus that means you couldn’t countenance not having Him in your life?

Prayer: Make the words of the hymn Abide with me your prayer today.
