Tuesday 13 April

Questions

Read Luke 24.17-24

“He asked them, ‘What are you discussing together as you walk along” (Lk.24.17)

The Lord urges His people to pour out their hearts to Him (Ps.62.8): notice how Jesus gently draws out from these disciples what is on their hearts by means of the questions He asks (vv.17 and 19 – and v.26, too: you see the same in Genesis 3.9).

Why do you think that well-framed questions are such a helpful means of pastoring people in their need?

Have there been times in your experience where a question (maybe from a friend or a counsellor, or in a sermon or talk) has proved transformative?

Prayer: Help me to learn how to ask good questions, Lord, so that those with whom I’m speaking are able to ‘talk out’ and ‘tease out’ what’s troubling them.
