Envy
Read Psalm 73.1-14
“Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart ..” (Ps.73.1)
The world in Asaph’s day was in some respects little different from our own: it raised the same issues, and prompted the same questions: if God is good, why do wicked people seem to get on fine, while the godly don’t have their troubles to seek?
Asaph starts very deliberately with this resounding affirmation, as much for his own benefit as for others: what truth do you need to preach to yourself today?
When you’ve been struggling how have you learned to avoid envying others?
Prayer: You are, always and in all respects, good, Lord. Help me to hold onto that truth and keep me from the corrosiveness of an envious and resentful spirit
