Victim
Read John 5.1-6
“.. He asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’ ..” (Jn.5.6)
Jesus’ questions are invariably pastorally driven and go the heart of the matter. The answer isn’t as obvious as it might initially seem: in some ways it’s easier to think of ourselves simply as a ‘victim’ than to change the habits of a lifetime.
Are there patterns of behaviour in your life, or ingrained attitudes, which you’d rather Jesus didn’t address?
In what ways has the ‘renewing’ grace of Jesus in your life brought with it radical and costly changes to the way you live your life?
Prayer: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
