Thirsty

Read John 4.11-18

“.. Give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty ..”  (Jn.4.15)

We are thirsty creatures, wired from the start with a thirst for the Lord which He alone can quench: but like the woman at the well, we also often seek to satisfy that thirst by looking in all the wrong places – ‘broken cisterns’ that can’t hold water (Jer.2.13).

What are the most common means by which we misguidedly try to satisfy our thirst for meaning, purpose and fulfilment in life?

What might Jesus put His finger on in your life as a misguided search on your part for that which will satisfy the longings in your heart?

Prayer: Keep me from making an idol of the good gifts You have given me, my Lord, and help me rather to be captivated more and more solely by Yourself.
