Wednesday 5 May

Covenant

Read Deuteronomy 7.1-11

“.. It was because the LORD loved you and kept the oath He swore to your ancestors that He brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you …” (Deut.7.8)

God’s gracious dealings with His people are not conditional, or dependent, on anything in them, but have their root in a commitment He chose to make towards them in love. That commitment had implications for Him – and for His people!

What does it mean to you to know that the LORD has set His affection on you (v.7) and that you are ‘His treasured possession’ (v.6)?

What does the LORD say here are the implications for His people of His having loved them?

Prayer: Lord, it’s always such a comfort to me to know that You are ‘the faithful God’: please help me to show myself faithful to You in every area of my life.
