Enduring
Read Daniel 2.39-45
“.. ‘the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed .. it will itself endure for ever ..’” (Dan.2.44)
The king’s dream was the story-line of the Bible: the always temporary kingdoms of this world, no matter how grand and impressive, are all inherently flawed – and will become at last the kingdom of our Lord, who will reign for ever and ever (Rev.11.15).
What does the ‘progression’ from ‘gold’ through ‘bronze’ to ‘iron’ suggest in relation to the succession of kingdoms mentioned here?
Why was God giving this dream (and its interpretation) to Nebuchadnezzar?
Prayer: It is in You, my Lord and my Rock, that I place my trust again today: in the face of all that otherwise would trouble me, please keep me in perfect peace (see Is.26.3f).
