Self-Importance

Read Daniel 3.1-3

“.. all the other provincial officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it ..” (Dan.3.3)

Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of ‘an enormous, dazzling statue’ (Dan.2.31) seems to have gone to his head rather than brought him to his knees: filled with a sense of his own importance (Dan.2.36-38), he wanted everyone to see and acknowledge his greatness.

Is it wrong to take pride in your own achievements?

How do you experience the temptation to self-importance, and what safeguards can you put in place against it?

Prayer: You alone are great, O God. Preserve me today from all thoughts of my own self-importance; help me so to live that I point others to You and not to myself.
