Warning
Read Daniel 5.18-21
“But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory ..’” (Dan.5.20)
The lessons of history are there to be learned: God’s dealings with a former generation are recorded for our instruction (see 1 Cor.10.11), and the experience of Belshazzar’s forbear recounted in Daniel 4 represented a solemn warning from God.
What lessons God has been impressing on your heart and what warnings has He been giving you?
It can be easy to drift into an arrogant complacency: what steps can you take to prevent there being such ‘drift’ in your life?
Prayer: “Let holy charity mine outward vesture be, and lowliness become mine inner clothing: true lowliness of heart which takes the humbler part and o’er its own shortcomings weeps with loathing.”
