Authority

Read Romans 13.1-2

“.. the authorities that exist have been established by God ..” (Rom.13.1)

No one is an island: we are all individuals in community. Love means caring not simply for the people around us, but for the community as a whole as well. And that involves us having a genuine care for those set in authority over us.

The gospel proclaims the lordship of Jesus: how is that truth given expression by your submitting to the authorities set over you?

When might it be right to disobey the authorities?

Prayer: Lord, give to those whom You have set in authority the wisdom, integrity, stamina, courage and help they need to fulfil their weighty responsibilities.
