Obedience
Read Luke 1.57-61
“.. but his mother spoke up and said, ‘No! He is to be called John’ ..” (Lk.1.60)
Elizabeth’s boundless joy as a mother was surely enlarged still further by the sense of wonder and awe at the ‘great mercy’ she had experienced at the hand of the Lord: she was keen to give expression to that joy in her obedience to the Lord’s command.
Have there been instances in your life when you’ve defied tradition and said ‘No!’ to a course of action in obedience to the word of God?
As you contemplate afresh the mercy of God in the gift of His Son, are there areas of your life where a fresh obedience is called for?
Prayer: Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
