“..I call on the Lord in my distress ..” (Ps.120.1)
The first of 15 ‘songs of ascents’: the ‘ascent’ is best understood to refer to the Israelites ‘going up’ 3 times a year to Jerusalem. The starting point is significantly that of ‘distress’: the ‘ascent’ is to be spiritual as well as geographical. Look up. Head up.
