Power
Read Daniel 8.1-4
“.. He did as he pleased and became great ..” (Dan.8.4)
The visions God gave to Daniel were for his encouragement in relation both to the present experience of believers in Babylon and to what future generations of God’s people would have to face. Empires may be powerful: but God remains in charge.
From what you know of Belshazzar’s reign (see Daniel 5) why do you think Daniel was given these visions (chapters 7 & 8) at this time?
What powerful ‘empires’ can you think of in today’s world to which the description of v.4 could be applied? Are you disturbed by their power?
Prayer: Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You, Lord Jesus; I’m too easily distracted and disheartened otherwise by people and powers who throw their weight around.
