Honour

Read Daniel 5.22-28

“.. You praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or understand: but you did not honour the God who holds in His hand your life and all your ways ..” (Dan.5.23)

The king chose to pitch himself against God: it was deliberate, brazen and utterly foolish (since the God he scorned does see, does hear, and does know – and is the God who sustained him in life). There is only ever going to be one ‘winner’.

Read Jesus’ story of the rich fool (Lk.12.13-21): what will it mean for you to be ’rich towards God’?

How will you honour God as the one who holds your life in His hand?

Prayer: My times are in Thy hand: my God, I wish them there: my life, my friends, my soul, I leave entirely to Thy care [William Freeman Lloyd, 1791-1853]
