Commitment

Read Romans 16.14-16

“.. Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas and the other brothers and sisters with them ..” (Rom.16.14)

You’ll not be familiar with any of these names: none were ‘big-name players’. But Jesus’ church doesn’t function like that: Paul’s ability to mention so many individuals, with such appreciation, is indicative of a substantial mutual commitment.

In what ways (if any) and to what extent (if at all) do you think that you (and the church more generally) fall into the trap of a ‘celebrity culture’?

In what ways would it be evident to an on-looker that you and your believers regard one another as your brothers and sisters in Christ?

Prayer: Our Father, create in my heart a deepening bond of affection for all my fellow believers, a growing delight in their company, and a high regard for their gifts.
