Greatness

Read Daniel 4.19-23

“.. ‘Your Majesty, you are that tree! ..’” (Dan.4.22)

Prophets and preachers require to be bold. Like Nathan centuries earlier (2 Sam.12.7), Daniel applied the message in a very personal, ‘2nd-person-singular’ way to the king. ‘You are that tree’ – huge, but humbled and cut down to size.

The Lord had made the king great, but it had gone to his head: when the Lord prospers you (see v.4) how can you ensure that it doesn’t go to your head?

Is pride an issue in relation to which the Lord is pointing the finger today and declaring, ‘You are the one’?

Prayer: Imprint on my heart, Almighty God, the clear conviction that You alone are great: help me gladly to own that every ‘success’ I have today will be Your doing.
