Tuesday 10 August

Disturbed

Read Daniel 5.5-9

“Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lampstand in the royal palace ..” (Dan.5.5)

God’s ‘graffiti’ was as sobering as it was surprising and sudden. God’s ways of breaking in on our world may be very varied, but they’re also very pointed: we ignore or dismiss Him at our peril – He will always have the last word.

The king was disturbed by what he saw, perplexed by what he read, frustrated by his (not so) wise men: have you had such a ‘wake-up’ call from the Lord?

This finger had previously written on the tablet of stone (Ex.31.18): in what ways has the ‘Law of God’ disturbed and shaken you?

Prayer: Your Scriptures, O Lord, often have such an impact on my spirit, challenging my too-casual walk with Yourself: help me to take to heart Your Word today.
