Sunday 9 May

Cross

Read 1 John 4.7-21

“.. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins ..” (1 Jn.4.10 [ESV])

‘I have loved you’ (Mal.1.2). If you ever had cause to doubt that basic reality, the Scriptures always drive you back to the cross and what it was that Jesus endured and effected for us there.

Propitiation speaks of the righteous wrath of the holy God: in what ways is the love of God seen and known in His wrath?

If you’re aware of a lack of love in your life, what pastoral guidance and help would John give you?

Prayer: How deep Your Father’s love for me, how vast beyond all measure, that You should give Your only Son to make this wretch Your treasure. Help me so to know the depths of Your love for me that my living this coming week shall be its overflow.
