Patience
Read Lamentations 3.22-33
“Though He brings grief, He will show compassion, so great is His unfailing love ..” (Lam.3.32)
Tragedies, disasters, grievous sorrows. They happen. Always unwelcome, usually unexpected, and part and parcel of living as fallen creatures in a fallen world. The one abiding certainty for believers is the constancy of God’s never-failing compassions.
When things go ‘pear-shaped’ in your life, how do you square that experience with the great faithfulness of God?
The Scriptures regularly exhort God’s people to wait (see vv.24 & 26): what insights does this passage give as to how you can develop that sort of patience?
Prayer: Father, when my world seems is collapsing around me it’s hard to be patient! Grant me the grace of a child-like trust and the confidence that You will show me Your compassion.
