Read 2 Peter 3.3-7
“They deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water ..’” (2 Pet.3.5)
From the start of the Bible it’s clear that God’s chosen way of working is through His word: He speaks and it is done. His word is powerful and His word is true. What He commands comes to pass. Always. However unlikely it may seem.
In contrast to all who scoff at the prospect of Jesus’ coming again, believers are deliberately to remember, and hold onto, the promise of God’s word: how might you take steps to remind yourself of, and rejoice in, this great promise?
How will you answer those who scoff in these terms today?
Prayer: Keep me, Lord Jesus, from a life that is lived too much in the here and now. Help me to savour every promise that You make, and not least this, that You are coming back.
