Sunday 18 July

Better

Read Daniel 1.18-21

“In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters ..” (Dan.1.20)

This note of ‘ten times better’ is a great gospel truth! Jesus is better. His way is better. His grace is better. The life that Jesus gives is always better – and that better life just keeps on getting better all the time. Celebrate your ‘ten times better’ life today!

God’s work in these young men was matched by their work (see Phil.2.12-13): as God works in you what might you be working at to ensure your living is clearly ‘ten times better’?

The ‘ten times better’ of these young men was no momentary flash-in-the-pan but something sustained over more than 60 years (see v.21): how will your weekly Sunday worship help sustain you like that? (Read Psalm 92)

Prayer: As I plant myself again in Your courts today and share in the worship of Your people, pour out Your Spirit on me afresh that I may still bear fruit in old age!
