Discipline
Read Psalm 78.55-64
“Like their ancestors they were disloyal and faithless, as unreliable as a faulty bow..” (Ps.78.57)
The book of Judges is a sobering record of the ease and speed with which Israel drifted away from the Lord once in the land of promise: God’s dealings with them were more and more stringent to highlight how disastrous such faithlessness is.
How reliable are you in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ? Or are you up and down, your good intentions quickly evaporating into gross indulgence?
God’s merciful disciplines are severe: in what ways have you been aware of them in your own life – and in the life of the nation today?
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for this reminder that You lovingly discipline Your children: like a sheep I am prone to wander – what need I have of Your shepherding watch.
