Lukewarm
Read Revelation 3.14-22
“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock ..’” (Rev.3.19f)
It’s very easy for both individuals and churches to slide into a ‘lukewarm’ level of Christian living, as the church in Laodicea had clearly done: they had all the ‘trappings’ of faith but little room for the Lord Himself, the reality to whom the rituals pointed.
As you reflect on this passage, in what ways (if any!) are you aware of having become somewhat ‘lukewarm’ in your following Jesus?
The challenge of His word is often the Lord’s way of knocking at your door: what will be your way of opening the door to Him according to these verses?
Prayer: “God deliver me from the dread asbestos of ‘other things.’ Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I may be aflame” (from the ‘Journals of Jim Elliot’)
