Fragile

Read Isaiah 40.6-8

“All people are like grass and their glory like the flowers of the field ..” (Isaiah 40.6)

There is a fundamental fault-line in our humanity called sin which leaves us fragile, fickle, and subject to the judgment of God: in contrast to that (and our only hope in the face of that) is the enduring ‘word of our God’ and His promises of grace.

In what ways does the ‘fragility’ of our humanity find expression?

What encouragement is there for believers in the assurance that God’s word “stands for ever”?

Prayer: Frail as summer’s flower we flourish; blows the wind and it is gone; but, while mortals rise and perish, You endure unchanging on: how glad I am to praise You, Lord, as the high eternal One (from a hymn by Henry F Lyte)
