Firstborn

Read Luke 2.22-24

“.. ‘every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord ..’” (Lk.2.23)

The Exodus was a defining moment for the people of Israel. Redemption from the slavery of Egypt came at cost – the death of the firstborn son had been ‘covered’ by the blood of the lamb. They were never allowed to forget it (Ex.13.2, 12).

Here in Jesus is the true ‘firstborn’ (see Rom.8.29: Col.1.18): how do you honour Him as such and give Him the ‘supremacy’ in your life?

Three times in these verses reference is made to the Law: what steps might you take to ensure your life is more fully lived by the Book?

Prayer: Help me to develop good routines in my life, Lord, enabling me to meditate on Your Word day and night and to be careful then to do everything written in it.
