Superior
Read Daniel 8.19-25
“‘.. He will become strong, but not by his own power .. he will be destroyed, but not by human power ..’” (Dan.8.24-25)
Daniel’s vision is now explained. The ‘ram’ is the Medo-Persian empire, the ‘goat’ is Greece, issuing in a ‘master of intrigue’ whom history knows as Antiochus IV (or ‘Antiochus Epiphanes’). But the Lord is the one who’s always in charge.
The rebellious (v.13) taking of a ‘stand against the Prince of princes’ invariably issues in a brazen persecution of God’s people: how ready are you for that?
Daniel was reminded of the truly ‘superior’ power of God. What steps can you take to ensure that you remain always conscious and confident of that?
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for warning Your people that ‘in this world we will have trouble’, and for assuring us that You have overcome the world (John 16.33).
