Pilgrim

Read Psalm 120.5-7

“.. I am for peace; but when I speak they are for war..” (Ps.120.7)

The ‘songs of ascent’ are ‘pilgrim songs’, the songs of those on their way to the city of God. Believers rightly understand themselves as pilgrims, ‘foreigners and strangers on earth’ (Heb.11.13-14) – ever at odds with the values of the world: and heading home.

How will your gathering with God’s people today help to remind you of the true ‘home’ to which you are headed?

Why is this distinction between ‘peace’ and ‘war’ so apt in describing the difference between the kingdom of God and the dominion of darkness?

Prayer: It’s hard living life in this world when I’m surrounded by those whose values and perspectives are so at odds with Yours, Lord. Refresh me today in worship!
